Rafiq Razali to steer CMCF through AI and deepfake challenges in 2nd term
KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Group managing director Rafiq Razali has been reappointed as chairman of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (CMCF) for a second term.In a statement, CMCF announced that Rafiq’s reappointment followed its Annual General Meeting held yesterday.
“Rafiq will continue to lead the Content Forum for another two years, building upon the strong foundation established during his first term, which commenced in January 2024.
“As chairman, he will spearhead the Content Forum’s renewed efforts to tackle urgent issues such as AI-generated content and deepfakes.
“This is in addition to ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening protections for minors, promoting content inclusivity, bridging governance gaps across emerging platforms, and equipping the public with tools to navigate today’s increasingly complex digital content environment,” it said.
CMCF said that under Rafiq’s continued leadership, it would reinforce its role as a proactive industry voice in guiding Malaysia through a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Rafiq, meanwhile, highlighted the need for agile and adaptive approaches to digital content regulation.
“Strengthening self-regulation enables us to strike the right balance between innovation and accountability.
“This becomes particularly crucial as we confront emerging frontiers such as AI-generated content and the growing influence of social media — not just as a medium for personal expression, but also as a vital channel for news, advertising, education, and public discourse,” he said.
Content Forum chief executive officer Mediha Mahmood expressed her enthusiasm at continuing to work under Rafiq’s leadership as he enters his second term.
“Rafiq’s steady guidance has played a key role in shaping a more inclusive and forward-thinking content ecosystem.
“As we progress, our focus remains on embedding self-regulation as a natural and integral part of the content creation process — encouraging greater accountability, creativity, and trust across the industry.”
Rafiq assumed the role of managing director at Media Prima Group on Oct 1, 2021. He previously served as chief executive officer of Rev Media Group.
